The motto of the University is "Veritas Christo et Ecclesiae" which translated from Latin means "Truth for Christ and the Church."

Here are three of it's Rules and Prescepts

"Every one shall consider the main end of his life and studies to know God and Jesus Christ, which is eternal life.

"Seeing the Lord giveth wisdom, every one shall seriously by prayer in secret seek wisdom of Him.

"Every one shall so exercise himself in reading the Scriptures twice a day that they be ready to give an account of their proficiency … both in theoretical observations of language and logic, and in practical and spiritual truths."

Can you name the University?

University Motto

Postby New Life » Sun Sep 04, 2005 2:58 pm

New to this forum so just viewed your question concerning a University motto. I'll take a stab at it seeing as I grew up close by what I believe is:

Survey says...

Good ole HARVARD UNIVERSITY!
Or as we locals call it:

Hahvid Unaversity. We can walk on it's beautiful campus if we ahh
willing to pahk owah cahs in the neah by pahk.

Sadly Harvards motto was changed by it's newer board, not sure of
the exact year. It was a little to biblically correct and 'offensive'.

Good question

Sorry, forgot to mention that Harvard is located in Cambridge MA,
though I'm sure that is probably known. Huge attraction for tourists.

Harvard was once well known for it's high moral standards and belief in the one true God. They still do have or did have, at least a couple of Godly men serving on their teaching staff. (Maybe that was Princeton).
Harvards founders held their students
accountable to maintain a Godly lifestyle and high moral standard, and I 'believe' originally, students
were appointed to or accepted to this fine academic establishment based on the knowledge of their desire for not only academic prowess but for their Christian stand as well.

But as is common in most areas of education and vocation God has
been slowly pushed aside and/or often forgotten entirely.

If I somehow got the answer to this question wrong,
please disregard the confidence in which I answered.
I'm 'nearly certain that the answer you are looking for is Harvard.

I have been known to be wrong once or a million times though :D .
Especially when pulling up facts from distant memory.
