How do you deal with stress?

Postby Jessie » Wed May 10, 2006 3:44 pm

Recently I learned that, "Worry is a sin- probably the most accepted sin in Chrisitianity". I get that if we worry we are not trusting God.
How do you balance the stresses of life with trust in God?...or How do you surrender the worry to God?

Hmmm... giving up our worry to God each day is not an easy thing to do.
I know I struggle with it too. Lot's going on here in our home with my mother-in-law being ill and living out of state. The other night all I could do is worry about her.

I came across a new daily devotional the other day by Holly Wagner called Daily Steps for God Chicks. She has a great suggestion for worry -
On a sheet of paper, write down something that you are worrying about. Now, take that paper and hold it up as if you are offering it to God, and say something like this: "I'll let go of this worry, Father, trusting that you will take care of it." Now, throw that piece of paper in the trash. And don't take it out! You have given it to your Father, and He is more than capable of handling it.

I tried it yesterday morning.... it works!

Some great scripture on anxiety and worry -
The Result of Anxiety
Proverbs 12:25
Proper Response to Anxiety/Worry
1 Peter 5:7
Philippians 4:6-7
Isaiah 41:10 and Isaiah 41:13
Worry is often fear of "what might be" rather than focusing on what is real or true.
Philippians 4:8
The bottom line is believing God is sufficient.
2 Corinthians 12:9-10
Do we believe God is sovereign and he has planned our days?
Psalm 139:16
Isaiah 44:6
Isaiah 45:5-7
God can use anything for his ultimate plan. God wastes nothing.
Romans 8:28
Worry for the future is cared for in God's ultimate plan.
John 14:1-3
Isaiah 26:3-4
Matthew 6:33-34

How do you deal with stress?

Writing down our worry and throwing it away, reminds me of my God box.
I write down my prayers and stick them in my God box. Then when they are answered I write praise on it.
